Whitney Merritt is excited to join Dr. Denisa as she seeks licensure as a Licensed Associate Professional Counselor. Whitney has been passionate about counseling since she opened her first psychology textbook in college. Whitney graduated from Georgia State University in 2014 with a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism with a concentration in Public Relations and a minor in Psychology. After graduation, Whitney lived in 11 countries over the course of a year, volunteering with local nonprofits in each country. Through her service work around the world, she found her passion in listening to people's stories and helping them find hope and healing in their circumstances. When Whitney returned to the states after her volunteer work, she started her master’s degree in School Counseling, graduating in 2020. She has worked in the school system for 4 years in various roles, as a special education paraprofessional, graduation coach, and high school counselor. She enjoys working with a diverse population of students in her virtual charter school as a school counselor and is excited to grow her skills in the clinical setting working with Dr. Denisa as her supervisor. Whitney has experience with multicultural counseling, trauma-focused therapy, solution-focused brief therapy, cognitive-behavioral therapy, and narrative therapy. Whitney is also a 200-hour certified yoga instructor and believes in the mind/body connection involved in healing.
