If you are like me, you are always looking for the most natural, efficient way to supercharge your child’s nervous system, reduce inflammation in body and brain, and boost his overall health. There are many ways to do this, but drinking green smoothies isn’t just one of my favorite one but also one of the healthiest one.
This super versatile, leafy vegetable is bursting with vitamins B2, B3, C, E, carotenoids, folate, calcium, magnesium, zinc, and fiber. As a rich source of vitamin B, spinach boosts energy and overall healthy functioning of our nervous system. As a bonus, spinach also helps to prevent lung, breast, and cervical cancer as well as fight cardiovascular disease. And did you know that spinach also aids digestion, relieves constipation, protects the mucus lining of the stomach, and flushes out toxins from the colon. Research shows that nutrients derived from spinach are able to reduce inflammation in the body and brain. AND, regular consumption of fresh, organic spinach juice has been shown to improve skin health dramatically. Sadly, despite these valuable attributes, spinach consumption remains low in comparison to other leafy green vegetables. (1)
An oxalic acid, a special compound in spinach, blocks the absorption of calcium and iron. However, if you pair spinach with a food high in vitamin C, such as Mandarin oranges, the problem is solved. Another way to reduce oxalic acid is to cook the spinach leaves for about two minutes. A fascinating research study shows that a mixture of blueberry, strawberry, and spinach extracts showed significant positive impact on reduction of inflammation and neurological health. (2) So, why not take advantage of these incredible healthy benefits in a form of a very tasty smoothie.
When shopping, choose crisp, bright green leaves and stems with no sign of yellowing, wilting or bruising. For mild flavor and delicate texture, buy baby spinach. Always buy your spinach ORGANIC as this veggie is conventionally super sprayed with pesticides
